Lenore Scholarship
The John P. Lenore ’47A Scholarship Fund was originally established in 2007 with a gift from John ’47A and Dorothy Lenore, motivated by John’s personal experience at The Manlius School. As a young man, John saw an ad in his local hometown paper about Manlius Military Academy and decided to write a letter inquiring about scholarship opportunities. John was awarded a scholarship to play football at Manlius and the team went on to complete two undefeated seasons. His accomplishments on the football field at Manlius were further recognized when John was inducted into the MPH Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. John remained a consistent philanthropic supporter of MPH until his passing 2015 at the age of 86. Since that time, his family has continued to honor John’s memory through additional gifts to the School.
Who is eligible to apply?
The John P. Lenore ’47A Scholarship will be restricted to support Middle and/or Upper School applicants who fit the following criteria:
- High academic achievement demonstrated through current scholastic performance;
- Special interests or talents that would be cultivated through our curricular and extracurricular activities;
- Enhancement of our learning community by providing greater cultural, intellectual, and socioeconomic diversity.
Priority will always be given to those students and families who demonstrate financial need. Once a student is named a John P. Lenore ’47A Scholar, he or she will be funded through graduation, provided he or she maintains high academic performance and continues to be a positive member of the MPH community. Preference will also be given to a student from West Virginia.
How do I apply?
Lenore Scholarship applicants are asked to complete the standard MPH admissions process. We encourage families to contact the Admissions Office if they are unable to pay the $60 application fee so that we may assist you with your application.
