Lower Schoolers Learn About S.T.E.A.M and Entrepreneurship
MPH parent Dr. Nate Boyer visited our Lower School last week to provide 3rd through 5th graders with a lesson on the role that S.T.E.A.M and entrepreneurship play in three areas of geography. The three areas were Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing and 3D visualization. Dr. Boyer provided an overview of the importance of S.T.E.A.M and GIS in entrepreneurship with an emphasis on entrepreneurial opportunities that students could pursue. Students participated in discussions and asked questions about S.T.E.A.M., geography and how they could become entrepreneurs. To conclude the session, each student was guided through a process to create their own business plan.
Dr. Boyer has a wide variety of experience in both S.T.E.A.M and entrepreneurship. He has been a General Manager and Director of Worldwide Sales with Eastman Kodak, Director of Commercial Remote Sensing Technology at Boeing, Eastern Regional Sales Manager with Lockheed, and owned a geospatial consulting firm. He has a B.S. in Speech Communications from Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts and a B.S. in Public Relations from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He also holds an M.S. in Technology Management with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, from the University of Maryland University College at College Park and an M.S. in General Psychology from Kaplan University. His doctorate is in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix School of Advanced Studies. Currently, he is a full-time professor at Purdue University’s School of Business and Information Technology where he teaches several courses on business entrepreneurship, strategy, and leadership.
We were fortunate to have Dr. Boyer speak with our students and are grateful for his willingness to share his expertise with this eager group of Lower Schoolers!
