Manlius Pebble Hill School students perform ‘Sweet Charity’
“Sweet Charity” is a tender, poignant and consistently funny look at the adventures, or rather the misadventures, in the ways of love encountered by the gullible and guileless lady known as Charity Hope Valentine.
Charity is a dance hostess who always gives her heart and her dreams to the wrong man. Charity continues to have faith in the human race despite apparently endless disappointments and hopes that she will finally meet the nice young man to romance her away from her seedy life.
Originally directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse with music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by Neil Simon, the show is based on Fellini’s screenplay “Nights of Cabiria.” It premiered on Broadway in 1966, where it was nominated for nine Tony Awards.
Performances will be 7:30 p.m. Friday March 24, and 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25. There will be a second weekend of performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday March 30 and Friday, March 31 and a final performance Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. All performances will be in the Manlius Pebble Hill School Coville Theater, 5300 Jamesville Road, Syracuse, NY 13214.
