Jazz night coming to Cazenovia High School

— The Cazenovia High School Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kathleen DiNardo, will present its 12th Annual Jazz Night at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in the Cazenovia High School Auditorium. The featured guest this year is Joe Colombo, trombone soloist, and his combo, from Syracuse, with Big Band Jazz being the featured music of the night.

Colombo is the Upper and Middle School Band Director at Manlius Pebble Hill School and teaches jazz improvisation and jazz history classes. He also teaches jazz at LeMoyne College. As a professional trombonist, he performs with the Central New York Jazz Orchestra and the Salt City Jazz Collective, a 16-piece big band. He has recorded with the Boston Brass and the Brass All-Stars Big Band “Stan Kenton Christmas Carols” CD released on Summit records in 2006. Colombo also serves as director of scholastic programs for the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation.

Columbo was the guest soloist in the jazz ensemble’s 2007 performance. Members of his combo will be working with the Cazenovia Jazz Ensemble during the day and will perform in concert with the group at the evening concert. Admission is free and open to all.
