High school seniors graduate from MPH, CBA

ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. — High school graduation season kicked off in Central New York this weekend as two private schools held their commencement ceremonies.

Sixty seniors graduated from Manlius Pebble Hill School Sunday afternoon. The students heard from a retired Air Force General with a special connection to the school.

General Howell Estes the third graduated from the Manlius School in 1960, which was later merged with another school to form Manlius Pebble Hill. Estes stressed the importance of academics to the graduates but also told them not to neglect other aspects of their lives.

Estes said, “Playing sports, doing things with your teachers besides the academics, forming friendships, those are the things that form you as a person, and those are equally important and something they need to keep in mind as they go off to college.”

About 100 seniors from Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse also took the next step in their lives Sunday.

The school held its 111th commencement ceremony in DeWitt. In addition to their family, friends and teachers, the students were joined by the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse, Robert Cunningham.

Christian Brothers Academy was founded as a high school back in 1900 before adding 7th and 8th grades in 1977.
