BOYS’ TENNIS: Mounties place three in C-1 semis
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Little Falls sent three entries to the semifinals Monday at Section III’s Class C-1 tournament.
Kyle Barnes, the Mounties’ No. 1 singles player, was a finalist while Mitchell Smith and the Joe Mihevc/James Scanlon doubles team also reached the semifinals of their flights. Barnes settled for second place with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Manlius-Pebble Hill’s Andrew Mariados after beating Matt Larkin of Clinton 6-0, 6-1 in his semifinal at Syracuse University’s Skytop complex.
Smith, playing third singles, defeated Sauquoit Valley’s Ryan Burton 6-0, 6-3 in his third-place match. Scanlon and Mihevc, Little Falls’ top doubles team, were beaten 6-2, 6-3 by a team from Manlius-Pebble Hill in their third-place match.
Manlius-Pebble Hill had winners in the top two singles flights, Clinton won at third singles and first doubles, and Skaneateles had the top second doubles team.
In the Class C-2 tournament at Utica’s John Mott Parkway Tennis Center, Poland Tornado Cameron Tabor advanced to the semifinals at third singles by winning his first two matches. Tabor defeated Alexandria Bay’s Kyle Gionet 6-0, 6-4 in the opening round and Daniel Snow from Immaculate Heart of Watertown 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Tournament play continued Tuesday.
