Upstate holds March of Dimes Convocation
MANLIUS, N.Y. — More than 300 students from the Syracuse City School District and Manlius Pebble Hill get a chance to explore health-related career paths.
Upstate Medical University hosted the 6th Annual March of Dimes Student Convocation Wednesday.
The event is designed to get students interested in life sciences before they apply to college.
Several doctors spoke specifically about careers related to birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
They also spoke about genetics and how to cure diseases using gene therapy.
Organizers say kids love the program and even offer some advice for future topics.
“We have taken that feedback to plan future years, but the school district has taken that feedback and added new course work that students can engage in based on this event,” said Diana Haldenwang, Chair Program Services Committee.”
March of Dimes holds this event several times throughout the state.
