Two CNY students advance in National Spelling Bee to next round this afternoon; Get live updates and watch online

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Two students from Central New York have advanced to this afternoon’s third round in the National Spelling Bee.

Watch the competition live on ESPN3.com now through 5:30 p.m. Round three begins at 1:15 p.m. You have to subscribe to ESPN through a cable or satellite provider to watch online.

The event kicked off Tuesday with the computerized spelling test, which for the first time also included a vocabulary test.

The combined scores from Tuesday and Wednesday will determine who moves on to the semifinals Thursday afternoon.

As soon as round three is complete this afternoon, the semifinalists will be announced.

The three local students in the competition are:

– Abirami Ratnakumar is a seventh grader at Seneca Falls Middle School.
Round 2: Correctly spelled entourage

– Philip Andrew Cummings is in the eighth grade at Oswego Middle School.
Round 2: Incorrectly spelled douane (does not advance)

– Maja Cannavo is an eighth grader from Manlius-Pebble Hill.
